Fast Eddie's opens
It was 20 years ago that Edward Jefferson walked into a Hobby Warehouse store with his good friend Dan Olivarez.
When Jefferson walked into the store, he saw cars everwhere, and planes hanging from the ceiling. It was like a candy store in many ways. He didn't know what to look at first.
Since then, Jefferson has had a love for all things remote control, from cars and airplanes to boats and helicopters.
He's now turned that hobby into a business.
He has opened Fast Eddie's RC Warehouse at 200 E. Second Street in downtown Hastings.
"I've been obsessed since the day I went into that store," he said. "I love it. It's fun. It keeps you out of trouble. And you're never actually in the vehicle when it crashes, so it's pretty safe."
Jefferson said he has cars in the store that run up to 75 mph, and boats that go even faster.
That said, the business also carries cars more suitable for remote control beginners, including electric models that are ready to run. Jefferson stocks everything from small cars to big cars, helicopters, boats and airplanes. By opening the store, Jefferson is hoping that Hastings' already strong R/C community just grows.
"I figured, I love doing it so much, why not turn other people on to it?" he said.
Jefferson, who lives in Welch, has Olivarez help him out at the store as an employee. The two of them can fix about any problem that comes up, and they stock a full line of spare parts and batteries.
The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
