Elm Salon isn't just Elm Salon anymore.

It's now Elm Salon and Spa, a change that took place earlier this year when the Hastings business added a certified massage therapist to its group of hair stylists.

The option for massages had always existed within the Elm Salon building, but in January, Suzy Dillon moved her business out of the Elm Salon building to her own location in downtown Hastings.

That's when Elm Salon owner Beth Warner got in touch with her sister-in-law, Mandy Langenfeld.

Langenfeld had studied massage therapy in Minneapolis, then spent time in London with her husband. While in London, she worked for the Aveda Institute as a massage therapist. She also learned the art of hot and cold stone massage and Reiki.

It seemed like the perfect fit for the two, so Langenfeld came to work upstairs at the Elm Salon. Langenfeld is now nationally certified in massage by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

"It was a natural fit to continue on with a spa," Warner said. "Our customers were used to it. It just ended up working out incredibly well."

Elm Salon offers three treatment rooms. Langenfeld is joined by fellow therapists Shelly Swanson and Mindy Anderson.

So far, the joint offering has gone over well with customers, Warner said.

"It has been incredible," she said. "We've had an incredible response."

In addition to massages, the business offers facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing and glycolic peels. Langenfeld is also trained in giving massages to pregnant women.

Elm Salon opened in December of 2006 at 110 E. Fourth St. E., across from City Hall. For more information, call 480-0355 or visit www.elmsalon.com.
