When officers arrived, they were told by a store employee that he had observed Heinecke-Ross in the electronics department of the store. He has selected a set of speakers and an electronic stylus. Apparently, Heinecke-Ross concealed the items in his jacket and walked out of the store. He ran toward a waiting vehicle, but was locked out of it. Heinecke-Ross then fled on foot. Police located the vehicle, its driver and Heinecke-Ross in a parking lot across from the store.

The speakers and stylus were located in the car. Police located other items, including an iPhone docking device and power adapter. Heinecke-Ross admitted to also taking these items from the store.

During a search of Heinecke-Ross, officers located a small plastic bag containing a white crystal substance. The substance tested positive for amphetamine.
