Electronic items taken, charge results
A 19-old Hastings man, Dylan James Heinecke-Ross, faces charges of controlled substance crime in the fifth degree and theft after an incident Feb. 1 in Hastings. According to the criminal complaint, Hastings Police were called to a retail store on North Frontage Road on the report of a theft.
When officers arrived, they were told by a store employee that he had observed Heinecke-Ross in the electronics department of the store. He has selected a set of speakers and an electronic stylus. Apparently, Heinecke-Ross concealed the items in his jacket and walked out of the store. He ran toward a waiting vehicle, but was locked out of it. Heinecke-Ross then fled on foot. Police located the vehicle, its driver and Heinecke-Ross in a parking lot across from the store.
The speakers and stylus were located in the car. Police located other items, including an iPhone docking device and power adapter. Heinecke-Ross admitted to also taking these items from the store.
During a search of Heinecke-Ross, officers located a small plastic bag containing a white crystal substance. The substance tested positive for amphetamine.
