Dog owners encouraged to keep dogs out of Lake Rebecca until algae subsides
The City of Hastings would like to remind residents that this is the time of year where bodies of stagnant water, such as lakes, ponds and ponding basins, can form algae blooms that can be potentially hazardous for both humans and animals.
The city asks residents to take appropriate precautions with their dogs when visiting Lake Rebecca this weekend during Rivertown Days. Algae blooms are prevalent in the area right now, and while the blue-green algae that can cause problems has not been confirmed, conditions are right for this type of organism to form.
Please do not allow your dogs to swim in Lake Rebecca, or any other stagnant body of water, until the algae subsides.
