Darrell Frederich Proechel, 78";
Darrell Frederich Proechel, 78, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Hastings, passed away of esophageal cancer on July 23.
He was born on Nov. 10, 1935, to Ernest and Henrietta (Franke) Proechel. He worked at American Hoist in St. Paul, Minn., from 1965-1983. Then he worked at the Hastings Court House as a custodian for 3.5 years. Then he went to work in the Burnsville School District as the lead maintenance custodian until he retired.
He attended church at First Baptist Church in Hastings. He was a very good Christian and good father. If anyone needed help Darrell was there for them. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He loved them all very much. He enjoyed attending church very much and considered the members part of his family. One of his favorite things was peanut buster parfaits; he never tired of them! He had a passion for cars; selling them, fixing them, driving, and collecting them.
He and Melva Jane moved to Mesa in the mid-90s. They enjoyed the weather, the scenery and the fact that Darrell did not have to shovel snow anymore. He also enjoyed raking the grass and the rocks.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Loren, Wesley and Donald.
He is survived by wife, Melva Jane Mudder Proechel; brothers, Dean and Wayne Proechel; children, Deanna (fianc Robert West), and Darrell (Kimberly); stepchildren, Darlene Emberg, Denise Emberg, Thomas Henry (Sally) Mudder, Terrence Lynn (Sharon) Mudder, Richard Allen Mudder, Gwendolyn Marie (David) Inskeep, and Gayle Jean (Craig) Hildahl; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at River of Life Church, 800 Vermillion St., Hastings. A visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at the church.
