Crash on Vermillion Street caused by brake failure

Faulty brakes led to damage and minor injuries in a crash on Vermillion Street Monday morning.

A car crashed that occurred Monday morning on Vermillion Street was the result of faulty brakes, according to a state patrol report.

Nathan Cysiewski, 29, of Hastings, was driving his Buick LeSabre northbound at about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8 and moved into the left turn lane to make a turn westbound onto Fifth Street. Cysiewski told troopers that his brakes didn't work, and that he swerved from the left turn lane back into the left northbound lane. He sideswiped a semi-trailer, driven by Joseph Green, 28, of South St. Paul, that was northbound in the left lane.

After hitting the trailer, Cysiewski's vehicle rode up onto the concrete median, also hitting a road sign.

There were three passengers riding with Cysiewski. They reported minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital.
