Construction on the Mississippi River Regional Trail (MRRT) portion from Spring Lake Park to Monroe Street in Hastings was scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 1. Construction during the 2010 season will continue through the end of October.
The trail will be a paved one which will eventually connect South St. Paul and Hastings. It is intended for non-motorized uses such as hiking, biking and in-line skating. The trail from Spring Lake Park to Hastings is about three miles in length.
Approximately half of the trail construction is located off of the roadway. Work will begin with tree removal and the extension of the box culvert located on County Road 87 between Jerry Path and County Road 42. The contractor will be working on different sections of the trail at the same time.
Private utility companies will relocate their facilities. Access to residences and businesses will remain open through construction.
