Community-wide party at high school is Friday night
Hastings Minnesota 745 Spiral Boulevard 55033

Families, get ready to celebrate the fall season and the upcoming Halloween holiday. Three favorites are returning this month.

On Friday, Oct. 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be a Community Halloween Party at the Hastings High School commons. Admission will be a non-perishable food item for Hastings Family Service or cash donation to the Youth First Planning Council Scholarship Fund. This is a family-friendly event. Please wear your best costume.

There will be food, games, prizes and candy for all. Recommended for ages 12 and under. Brought to you by Hastings Youth First, Hastings Parks & Recreation and Hastings Community Education.

There will be new twists on old themes when the Harvest Haunting returns from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion St.

Guests will be able to visit these specific areas when they attend this spooky event:

A Walk in the LeDuc woods -- Amy Deaver and her cast of ghostly characters will lead attendees through vignettes featuring "Halloween in Bygone Days."  There will be musical accompaniment.

The Simmons Shed -- Warm beverages and sweet treats will be served here.

Spencer Johnson's Camp -- Johnson will have a roaring campfire going in the same place where he worked during Civil War Weekend. S'mores and popcorn will be offered to the people who gather with the audience.

The LeDuc Parlor -- Scary videos produced by Kristin and Justin Schaack, award-winning filmmakers who grew up in Hastings, will be shown. A story teller will be present to share some very spooky stories.

The LeDuc Cellar - It will be a quieter time this year as there will be no moaning and groaning and screaming this year. The story of Louis Matsch's supposed entry into the LeDuc cellar from the cave will be told through live actors. Carroll Simmons (played by Andrew Fox) will greet Louis (played by Rose Johnson) and the audience will learn what the outcome will be.

The cost of Harvest Haunting, a family-friendly event, is $7 per person. Reservations are needed for the Cellar Tour. Call 651-437-7055 today to reserve a spot for the time of your tour.  Cellar tours take place every half hour. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.

This event is sponsored by Friends of LeDuc of Historic Hastings and Dakota County Historical Society. The LeDuc Historic Estate is owned by the City of Hastings and managed by Dakota County Historical Society.

Still in a party mood? The Harbor Church, Pine Christian Academy and Kids Kare are sponsoring their annual HarvestFest from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the church, 11125 W. Point Douglas Drive. Admission is a bag of candy.

The evening features games, drawings and food for purchase. Kids are encouraged to wear costumes.
