Community event to focus on youth success is May 29
The United Way of Hastings and “Helping Kids Succeed – The Hastings Way” invite the community to a public event tonight, Thursday, May 29, to discuss webs of support. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tilden Community Center gym, 310 River St.
We sometimes assume that youth will naturally progress successfully through childhood and adolescence into adulthood. Is growing up today tougher than in years past?
When our youth face the challenges of today’s world, we wonder “What can I do? What should I do?” Recognizing those pressures, people in Hastings began to mobilize to ensure every youth in Hastings has a web of support.
At the event, Derek Peterson, the leader of Helping Kids Succeed initiatives around the country, will involve the community in an explanation of how to create and strengthen webs of support for children and teens.
Parents, teachers, grandparents, family members, youth leaders, coaches, faith leaders, counselors and others who work with young people are encouraged to attend. Teens are especially welcome and will get ideas for strengthening their own personal webs of support.
