City's Clean-Up Day is April 26
Hastings residents will have the chance to clear out their homes and garages next weekend at the city's annual Spring Clean-Up Day.
The annual event, where people can bring electronics, household items, appliances, carpet, furniture, scrap iron and construction debris to the city's public works garage to dispose of them, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the Cal Ruedy Public Works Garage, 1225 Progress Drive.
New this year, electronics like TVs, computers, stereos, printers and more can be dropped off and disposed of for free.
The cost for disposing of carpet and furniture ranges from $5 to $10, and $1 to $10 for scrap iron. Appliances, like stoves, washers and dryers, cost $20 and construction debris ranges from $1 to $30, depending on how much there is.
The service is only for people living within the Hastings city limits. Those living outside the city limits who are interested in how they can get rid of their unwanted items should contact Kristin Behrens at the city's Parks and Recreation Department, 480-6175.
Hazardous waste, including car batteries, paint, pesticides and aerosols, will be accepted from any Dakota County resident at no charge.
Last year, lines stretched as far back as Sibley Street and wait times were between an hour and an hour and a half, Behrens said. She added that wait times were the worst early in the morning, so waiting for the afternoon might not be a bad idea, she said. Anyone who's in line by 1 p.m. will be served.
