The public will be invited to comment on proposed assessments for the 2012 street improvement project before the council votes. The project includes portions of West 16th, Ashland, Eddy, Forest, Maple, Walnut and Oak streets. Proposed assessment rates are $45 per frontage foot in areas that already have modern concrete curb and gutter and $60 per frontage foot for areas without modern curb and gutter. As proposed, assessments to private property would account for about $600,000 of the $3.1 million project.

The public will also get a chance to comment on changes being made to the city's ward boundaries. Boundaries are being shifted slightly to better spread out the population among polling places. Redistricting is based on data from the 2010 census.

Hastings' Parks and Recreation Department is working on getting a new section of trail built in southwest Hastings near County Road 46/47. At Monday's meeting, staff will present plans and funding sources for the council's approval. If approved, the trail would be built this summer.
