City Council: Preliminary budget and a restaurant expansion
The Hastings City Council will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. Here’s a look at what’s on the agenda.
In the consent agenda, which is expected to be approved with little to no discussion, are resolutions adopting the preliminary 2014 city budget and property tax levy. The preliminary budget and levy place a cap on how high the final budget and levy can be. Adjustments can still be made, as long as the final result is the same or lower than the preliminary levy.
The preliminary budget is being set at $28,074,786. The preliminary levy is being set at $11,610,920, which is 2.5 percent lower than the 2013 tax levy.
The annual truth in taxation hearing, where the public will be invited to comment on the proposed 2014 budget and levy, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2.
The council will discuss a site plan proposed by the Me and Julio restaurant. Me and Julio’s is proposing to build a roughly 1,300 square foot addition onto the north side of its building. The addition will allow the restaurant to accommodate more people and will be built to match the existing building. The size of the addition triggers a city requirement that a landscaping plan be submitted. To comply with the requirements, the restaurant is planning to plant 28 trees, the majority of which would be arranged on the east and west edges of the property.
