City Council: Ad program fees and the utility service repair policy
The Hastings City Council will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at City Hall. Here’s a look at what’s on the agenda.
The Parks and Recreation Department seeks to modify its advertising program. The department offers a number of advertising spaces in its facilities. Staff is asking to modify the prices of spaces in the Civic Arena, setting the price for a 4- by 6-foot wall ad at $350 per year, $250 for a 30-inch by 6-foot ad and $550 for a 30-inch by 8-foot dasher board panel ad. The department would also like to have the advertisers produce the signs at their own expense rather than the city’s. The department would also like to delete obsolete and old prices listed on the fee schedule.
Staff in the Public Works Department also is requesting a policy change. This one is to allow utility service repairs under $20,000 to be approved administratively by city staff. The request refers to a policy through which the city council assists homeowners with repairing or replacing bad water and sewer service lines by funding the repair and assessing the cost back to the homeowner over a 5- to 10-year period. The policy requires council approval, but since a homeowner with a broken water or sewer line generally can’t wait for council approval before fixing the line. Staff hopes to streamline the process.
