UW-Madison announces dean’s list

Students from Hastings named to the University of Wisconsin-Madison spring semester dean’s list are: Katharine Frank, School of Education; Whitney Johnson, College of Letters and Science; Haley Kimmen, College of Letters and Science; Hannah Simons, School of Human Ecology, dean’s high honors; Tiffany Thurmes, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences; Megan Waibel, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Southeast Technical announces graduates

Students from Hastings who graduated in May from Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical are: Tina Anderson, certificate, bookkeeping clerk; Rachel Angerman, Associate in Science degree, nursing; Jake Carlson, diploma, heating,ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration; Anna Eller, Associate in Applied Science, accounting; Katie Hilgers, diploma, practical nursing; Amber Hurtado, diploma, practical nursing; Maria Kasel, diploma, practical nursing; Ashley Savola, Associate in Science degree, nursing; Conan Soine, diploma, hearing, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.

St. Olaf announces graduates

The following students from Hastings who graduated this spring from St. Olaf College in Northfield are: Matthew Hoffman, who graduated with an exercise science major, is the son of Larry and Jody Hoffman; Jessica Moes, who graduated Cum Laude with an English majo, is the daughter of John Moes and Jill Moes; and Tamara Roque, who graduated with a biology major, is the daughter of Hugo Roque and Arlene Etzig.

Saint Mary’s announces dean’s list

The following students were named to the second semester dean’s list at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona: Mackenzie Klimek, daughter of John and Elaine Klimek; Lindsey Reinisch, daughter of Jayme and Lisa Reinisch; Abigail Zuzek, daughter of Mark and Janet Zuzek; and Katherine Zuzek, daughter of Mark and Janet Zuzek.

Concordia announces dean’s list

Students from Hastings named to Concordia University in St Paul are: Riley Swanson, a senior majoring in mathematics and Marisa Tejeda, a junior majoring in theatre arts.

Schluessler receives Presidential Honor Scholarship

Aren Schluessler of Hastings received the North Dakota State University Presidential Honor Scholarship in the amount of $10,000. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement.

Schluessler will enter NDSU in the fall and plans to major in pre-veterinary sciences. In high school, Schluessler was active in track and field. She is the daughter of Randy and Barb Schluessler.

Wenker participates in commencement ceremony at SJU

 Benjamin Wenker of Hastings, son of MJ and Paula Wenker, participated in the commencement ceremony at Saint John’s University on May 18 in the Saint John’s Abbey and University Church, Collegeville. Wenker is a candidate to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and Hispanic studies. Kathleen Blatz, a former legislator, judge and chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, delivered the keynote address. During the commencement ceremony, SJU presented Blatz with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Michael Rogers, a communication major from Mankato, Minnesota, was the student commencement speaker selected by this year’s senior class.

College of Saint Benedict announces graduates

Three students from Hastings participated in the commencement ceremony at the College of Saint Benedict on May 17 in the S.L. Haehn Campus Center/Clemens Field House on the CSB campus, St. Joseph.

Lisa Kranz, daughter of Tom and Jeanne Kranz, is a candidate to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Elizabeth Neitzke, daughter of Jeff and Lori Neitzke, is a candidate to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Madeline O’Brien, daughter of Marcia O’Brien and Vincent O’Brien, is a candidate to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hispanic studies and English with the honor summa cum laude.

Andersen graduates from McPherson College

Russell Andersen of Hastings graduated from McPherson College class of 2014.

Rochester Community and Technical College announces dean’s list

Kathryn Benko of Hastings has been named on the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester at Rochester Community and Technical College.

Saint Anselm College announces dean’s list

Meagan E. Trayers, an economics major, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. Trayers, a resident of Hastings, is a member of the class of 2015.

St. Olaf College announces dean’s list

Students from Hastings named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list are: Megan Braun, who is an undeclared major. She is a graduate of Hastings Senior High School and the daughter of Gary and Wendy Braun; Jessica Moes, who is an English major. She is a graduate of Hastings Senior High School and the daughter of Jill Moes and John Moes.

Reinisch receives NDSU scholarship

Matthew Reinisch, son of Jayme and Lisa Reinisch of Hastings, received the North Dakota State University Freshman Academic Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement. Reinisch will enter NDSU in the fall and plans to major in accounting. In high school, Reinisch was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, track and field and coaching.

Spicer receives NDSU scholarship

Blake Spicer, son of Bruce and Donna Spicer of Hastings, received the North Dakota State University Freshman Academic Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement. Spicer will enter NDSU in the fall and plans to major in mechanical engineering.

Nelson graduates from the University of Colorado

Galen Nelson, formerly of Hastings, graduated from the University of Colorado Denver Medical School on May 23. Galen is a 2002 graduate of Hastings High School, a 2006 graduate of Bethel University, and a 2010 graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder with a Master’s degree in physical chemistry. Galen will pursue an anesthesia residency in Omaha, Neb. Galen is married to the former Katie Patton of Colorado Springs, Colo., and they have two daughters. Galen is the son of Dr. Donn and Susan Nelson of Hastings.
