Wolpers to perform in 'The Hobbit'
Cayla Marie Wolpers, a 2007 graduate of Hastings High School, will perform in her fifth professional theater production when she performs in "The Hobbit" at the Open Window Theater in Minneapolis. Cayla is a 2010 graduate of Drake University with a bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theater. This will be her second production at the Open Window Theater, previously performing in "Leaving Iowa."
Gale accepted to Doctor of Pharmacy program at Creighton University
Foster Gale of Hastings has been accepted to the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Creighton University was founded is 1878 and is nationally known for its academic rigor.
Creighton's Doctor of Pharmacy Program is consistently ranked as one of the top private university Pharmacy Programs in the country. Gale is a 2010 graduate of Hastings High School. He is the son of Mary and James Gale.
Nelson is State finalist in American Miss Minnesota Pageant
Mariah Nelson of Hastings has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Minnesota Pageant to be held on July 28, and 29, 2012 at the Double Tree in Bloomington. Mariah will be participating in the teen (16-18) age division along with other outstanding young ladies from across the state of Minnesota. The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant in California, where she will receive an exciting complimentary tour of Hollywood and two VIP tickets to Disneyland.
Mariah is the daughter of Kristi and Tim Nelson of Hastings.
Duin to present composition recital
Seth Duin, a Luther College senior from Hastings, presented a composition recital on Sunday, April 29. in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus. Duin, the son of Doug and Ann Duin of Hastings, is majoring in music and communication studies at Luther. He is a 2008 graduate of Hastings High School. Duin presented "Vignettes of an American Western," his five-part work outlining various themes and scenes found in American Western cinema.
Duin is a student of Brooke Joyce, Luther associate professor of music and Jonathon Struve, Luther adjunct faculty in music. His recital partner is Brian Krumm, Luther senior. Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.
Gleich inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honors society
Elizabeth Gleich, a student at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, was inducted into the Theta of Minnesota Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the college of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University on May 1 at CSB and SJU. Gleich is the daughter of Kathleen and Peter Gleich of Hastings. Gleich is a senior peace studies and theology major at CSB.
