McDowell named to Dunwoody dean's list

Travis M. McDowell has been named to Dunwoody College of Technology dean's list. McDowell is a 2001 graduate of Hastings High School. He is in the electronics engineering program at Dunwoody and will graduate in June of 2012.

He is the son of Mark and Chris McDowell of Hastings.

Mahers win $2,500 for Hastings Sharks Special Olympics

Patrick and Diane Maher of Hastings have been selected as winners in American's Farmers Grove Communities, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. The donations are available through the Monsanto fund. The Mahers have designated Hastings Sharks Special Olympics, located in Hastings, to receive the award in Dakota County.

The check presentation ceremony was on Saturday April 14 at the School House Square Event Center.

Ione Orr celebrates 90th

Ione Orr of Hastings will celebrate her 90th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 1401 W. 15th St. A program will be held at 3 p.m.

Orr was a volunteer for many years in the Hastings School District, Hastings Family Service and Pleasant Hill Library.
