Brainerd "Jeff" Livingston, age 95, of Hastings, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings of complications from a stroke.
Brainerd was born Jan. 14, 1914, in Baxter Township, Minn., to Roy and Lura (Shipman) Livingston. He married Margaret Gussman Feb. 21, 1942 in St. Paul, was a veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Naval Air Force.
His 60-year career in the car business spanned the horse-and-buggy age to the digital age. Former owner of Livingston Ford in Hastings, Jeff also worked for Apple Valley Ford, Erickson Ford in Hastings, and Jim Haugen Ford in Farmington. Prior to that, he worked at the Ford Motor Company for 17 years, where he worked his way up from courier to distribution manager. He retired at age 91.
An avid golfer, Jeff was a longtime member of the Hastings Country Club and served a term as president of the board of directors. He was a member of Southview Country Club in the 1950s. He was also a member of Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
Brainerd was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret; daughters, Margaret Fabyanske (Marv) of White Bear Lake and Nancy Livingston (TimVanNess) of North St. Paul; grandchildren, Allison, Logan, Tanya, Jordan, Tyson, Piper, Kipp, and Quinn; great-grandchildren Jonas, Loren, twins Ethan and Wyatt, Caden, Yehiya, and Shams.
The funeral service, with the Rev. Doug Duin officiating, was held at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hastings, on June 24, 2009. The pallbearers were Logan Fabyanske, Tyson Fabyanske, Kipp VanNess, Andrew Eklund, Jon Beck, and Mohamed Sewidan. A private interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
