Offense has been missing from the Hastings Raiders attack this year on the boys soccer field.

After scoring five goals in their season-opening win over Winona-Cotter and two more in a win over Simley, Hastings has managed just one goal in its last five games.

"We just are simply having an offensive struggle right now," coach Shane Lanning said. "Unfortunately, it's not like football - defense can't win you games. In high school soccer, offense wins you championships."

Last Tuesday, Hastings lost to Richfield in a close match, 2-1. Jordan Rupe scored the Hastings goal.

A slow start cost the Raiders in the game.

"We kind of came out a little bit on the slow side in the first half," Lanning said. "We tend to firm up and find our groove in the second half, and that's what we did against Richfield."

Hastings lost to Rosemount on Saturday, 3-0. The Irish scored two goals in the first half, again using a strong start to get past Hastings.

Hastings lost to Roseville on Thursday, 2-0.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, Hastings lost to White Bear Lake, 4-0.
