Boys place fifth at indoor track and field meet

Thank goodness for indoor track and field facilities. Otherwise, who knows when the Hastings boys and girls track and field teams would be able to start their seasons.


On Saturday, the Raiders competed at the All American Invitational at the Knowles Fieldhouse in River Falls, Wis.

The good news for the boys team was that they won three events and ended up placing fifth in the 17-team meet.

Wes Evansen got his senior season off to a good start in the pole vault with a win. He cleared 13-06.

Zack Benning won two individual events, claiming the 800 crown and the 1,600. In the mile, he smashed the meet record, finishing in 4 minutes, 18.6 seconds. He cut four seconds off the record.

The girls placed 17th out of 18 teams in the girls competition.


The best finish for the Hastings girls came from Allissa Smith in the pole vault, where she placed seventh.
