The Hastings Raiders boys golf team finished day one of the Section 3AAA tournament at Keller Golf Course Tuesday.

"Right now we're in fifth place," head coach Pete McGinnis said. "We're 14 shots out of first place."

The boys put up their best team score yet: 308.

"That's our best by 16 shots this year," McGinnis said.

Matt Radke led the team with a 74, followed by Max Fox with 77, Jake Cooper with 78, Sam Otto with 79, Nick Tusa with 85 and Sean Eglinton with 86.

"The difference has been the efficiency around the greens," McGinnis said.

Now that they've gotten through the first cut, the Raiders next performance could give them a shot at the state level.

"We've got a great opportunity to send some kids to the state tournament, and we're playing our best golf at the right time," McGinnis said.

The boys play in the second day of sections at Bunker Hills Golf Course this Friday. Tee time is 11:30 a.m.

There are five teams and 10 individuals competing. After Friday, 11 players will advance to the state tournament.
