The Raiders placed third at the meet, held at Highland National.

Max Fox and Alex Wagner, the team's top two players, had their typical strong scores, each coming in with a 77.

The real story, though, were the scores turned in by Bryce Martin and Josh Brewster.

Martin had a 79.

"He's been putting the ball very well," HHS coach Pete McGinnis said. "That's been the difference in his score."

Martin had 28 putts during his round. McGinnis said the Raiders are averaging 34 putts per player, and he'd like to see that number get below 30.

Brewster had an 81.

"Josh has been playing very, very well," McGinnis said. "He says he's been struggling finishing the round. The last couple holes have been trouble for him. He's striking the ball very well. It's just a matter of finishing down the stretch."

Paul Morris and Josh Fox also played varsity for the Raiders. Morris had an 86 and Fox a 98.

Monday

Hastings played at TPC of the Twin Cities in Blaine on Monday, a very challenging course made even more difficult by some tough pin placements.

Fox opened the front nine with a 46, but scored a 35 on the back nine to end with an 81.

"We were proud of how well he came back," McGinnis said. "Sometimes kids give up in that instance. He fought and battled back."

Wagner had an 85. He started with a 39 on the front nine and shot a 46 on the back nine.

Brewster had an 83, Morris had a 96 and seventh-grader Jake Cooper had a 102.

North Oaks

Hastings placed fourth at a conference match at North Oaks with a 324.

Wagner had a 77, Fox had a 79, Brewster had an 82 and Josh Fox had an 87. Martin also played and shot a 90.

Saatzer invite

Hastings plays host to a major invitational Monday at the Hastings Country Club. The annual Don Saatzer Invitational kicks off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

The public is welcome to attend.

Hill-Murray won the tournament last year, and they are back this year. Hastings placed second last year and hopes to win the tournament this year.

On Monday, May 11, Hastings plays host to a conference meet, also at the Hastings Country Club.
