While the season ended Tuesday afternoon for the Hastings boys golf team, two Hastings players are poised to make a run at the state tournament.
Max Fox and Alex Wagner will both play Tuesday at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids for a chance to golf at the state meet.
For Fox, opportunity is ripe. He is the section leader after shooting a career best 69 Tuesday at Keller.
Wagner shot a 79 and had the 14th best score. The top five golfers from each section advance to the state tournament.
Fox shot a 31 on the back nine and had just 25 putts the entire round.
"I just hit the ball really well, and putted really well," he said.
Fox had four birdies on the back nine.
Bryce Martin had an 87 and Paul Morris had an 87 to round out the varsity scoring. Josh Brewster and Jacob Cooper each had 88s.
The score put Hastings sixth in the section. The top five teams advance to the second round.
Wagner was disappointed in his round, he said.
"It wasn't very good," he said. "I kind of struggled the whole day. I wasn't hitting many fairways. I wasn't putting it very good. I'm going to practice a lot between now and (Tuesday)."
