Black Dirt Theater cancels Friday night production of 'The Odd Couple' so cast can attend funeral

Friday's performance of "The Odd Couple" by the Black Dirt Theater company has been cancelled due to the funeral of a former cast member, which is set for Friday evening.

On Monday, Jordan Astar died of a cardiac arrest while at college in Madison, Wis. Astar was actively involved in Black Dirt Theater the last two summers. He had roles in the musicals "The Sound of Music" and "Oklahoma."

"He was a really good friend to all of us," director Andy Langenfeld said.

Productions on Thursday (at 7 p.m.), Saturday (at 7 p.m.) and Sunday (at 2 p.m.) are still on as scheduled.

People with tickets to the Friday production will be contacted by Black Dirt Theater. Or, they can call Black Dirt Theater at 651-300-9567.

"We'll be happy to switch them, and if that doesn't work, we can certainly do a refund as well," Langenfeld said.

Langenfeld encouraged the community to come to one of the productions over the weekend.

"It would be really great to have support from the community for the performances," he said. "I'd encourage and invite people to come and laugh at a really great community production."
