Big names in Hastings hockey plan exhibition
Several former hockey players from Hastings are coming back here this summer to play an exhibition game to benefit the Hastings Hockey Association, the Cottage Grove Hockey Association and Defending the Blue Line.
Jeff Taffe, Derek Stepan and Taylor Chorney, all of whom are playing in the NHL or with an NHL farm team, lead the list of notable players who will take to the ice at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena at 7 p.m. July 20.
Also playing in the game will be Jamie McBain from the Carolina Hurricanes, Ryan McDonagh from the New York Rangers, Jordan Schroeder from the Vancouver Canucks, former All-Star Phil Housley, T.J. Oshie from the St. Louis Blues and Blake Wheeler from the Atlanta Thrashers. A number of former Hastings players are also expected to attend.
About 1,500 tickets will be sold for the event. They are available for $25 during two pre-sale dates at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena. The first pre-sale date is June 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The second is June 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door for $35.
Hastings High School graduate and Super Bowl winner Ben Utecht will sing the national anthem at the event. Utecht is now a recording artist.
An autograph session will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Autographed game jerseys will be auctioned off after the game.
