Benning wins Red Wing cross country meet

Zack Benning did it again. The Hastings High School junior won another meet, this time claiming the top spot at the Red Wing Cross Country Invitational on Thursday in Red Wing. There were 118 runners in the meet.

Benning finished the 5K course in 15 minutes, 55.62 seconds.

As a team, Hastings finished in eighth place with 203 points.

Rochester Mayo won the meet with 58 points and Northfield was second with 90.

Here is how the rest of the Hastings runners fared:

Joe Rabaey was 21st in 17:31.92.

Forrest Close finished 54th in 18:20.99.

Jake Spitzack finished 77th in 18:56.21

Christian Weiland was 82nd in 19:07.46.

Brendan McCabe took 85th in 19:16.07.

Will Caturia finished in 86th in 19:16.76.

Nick Johnson was 92nd in 19:42.22.

Will Briercliffe was 101st in 19:50.99.

Finley Myers was 102nd in 19:56.78.


The Hastings girls were led by Michaela Mills, who placed 32nd in 16:27.82 on the 4K course.

Ciara Christensen was 47th in 16:48.66.

Rachel Peterson was 83rd in 17:53.56.

Kate Curtis finished 87th in 18:04.69.

Quinn Myers was 97th in 18:31.88.

Mandy Mach finished 102nd in 19:23.46.

Taylor Engstrom was 107th in 19:38.62.

Abberly Smith finished 115th in 21:52.21.

As a team, Hastings finished 12th with 299 points.

East Ridge won the meet and Roseville was second.

There were 13 teams in the meet.
