For more information on the benefit, or to donate to the cause, visit www.friendsofadam.org or call Amy Schaffer at 651-208-3749.

The funds raised at the benefit will go to Adam, Schaffer said. Only he and Schaffer can access the money in the fund.

"The money that's raised, it's going to help him his whole life," Lynette said.

Since Schaffer started planning the benefit, everyone has helped get donations. While at the hospital in early February for Adam's seventh round of chemo treatments, Allen noticed a photographer exhibiting work in the lobby.

He visited the photographer and told him of Adam's benefit. The photographer happily donated a framed photograph to auction off. Allen returned to the hospital room in tears, in part moved by the man's generosity and in part troubled by the fact that he's asking for help.

Shortly after the diagnosis, someone told Allen: "You're at a time in your life when you need to call in your favors." As hard as that has been, that's what they've been doing, and they've been overwhelmed at the amount of help they have been given.

There will be a silent auction at the event, and donations are still coming in for that, Schaffer said.

"Things are busy, but very good," she said. "I'm really excited about it. We're hoping we see a lot of faces."
