Behrends leads Nordic team at SEC meet
Hastings High School senior Wyatt Behrends made it clear Monday he is one of the Suburban East Conference's top Nordic skiers.
At the White Bear Lake Martin Luther King Invitational, Behrends placed second overall.
Behrends was in third place after the Classic leg of the race with a time of 14 minutes, 17.4 seconds. He was just two seconds off the leader, Gabe Hansen, of Stillwater.
In the Skate leg, Behrends came in four seconds behind Hansen.
At the end of the day, Behrends finished with a combined time of 26:45.1.
Hansen finished in 26:39.3.
"Wyatt had a really, really strong race," Hastings coach John Dewall said. "He was racing with that kid the whole way. It was a sprint to the finish. I was very proud of him. He was racing against the best kids in the conference. No question about it."
