Baseball season ends with loss to Faribault

The Hastings baseball season ended Thursday with an 11-9 loss to Faribault.

“It was an up and down year and just ended on that down part,” coach Taylor Pagel said. “They fought until the end and that’s all you can ask for.”

Hastings fell behind early and couldn’t come all the way back.

“We did fight back to have the tying runner on first and the go-ahead at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t finish the game on a winning note.

“Faribault took advantage of our mistakes whenever we made one.  We also took advantage of Faribault’s mistakes, but they just made less of them.”

Mikey Junker was 3-5 with a double and an RBI.  Mitch Donahoe was 3-4 with a double and an RBI.  Jake Dale was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs.  Sam Skoyen, Isaiah Gardell, Joey Werner and Thomas Roob each had one hit. Gardell, Roob, and Werner each had an RBI.

Isaiah Gardell started on the mound for the Raiders.

“He threw very well, but we made some mistakes in the field that allowed a lot of runs to cross while he was on the mound,” Pagel said. “Thomas Roob came in relief and threw very well as he has done all year.”
