The Hastings Hawks took on the Red Wing Aces Sunday afternoon at Vets Park. The Hawks won the game, 4-3, in 12 innings.
Adam Barta went all 12 innings, throwing 174 pitches, including 115 for strikes. He walked four, struck out 11 and gave up seven hits while allowing three unearned runs.
On offense, Jake Swartout drove in the winning run in the 12th inning with a infield single that brought Sam Ryan in from third.
Ryan led off the Hawks' 12th inning with a base hit. He advanced to second on a walk and was sacrificed to third.
The Hawks scored two runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and the winner in the 12th. The Aces scored two in the first inning and one in the fifth.
The Hawks finished the regular season with a 10-5 record in the Classic Cannon Valley. Hastings tied with Red Wing and Miesville, but due to the section record, the Hawks finished in fourth and will open a best two-out-of-three play-in series against Northfield Friday night at 8 at Vets park.
On Sunday, they travel to Northfield for game two and then the two teams will play the third game (if necessary) back at Vets Park Tuesday, Aug. 4.
