Asian Buffet now open in Westview Center
After being closed for about three months for renovations, the former Sun Moon Buffet has re-opened with a new name and some new offerings for those looking to satisfy their cravings for Asian food.
The buffet restaurant’s new name is Asian Buffet, and it re-opened to the public Feb. 28. After a fire damaged the kitchen, the restaurant took the opportunity to make a few changes. The kitchen has been almost entirely replaced and the dining room was given new carpet, said manager Donna Lin. The ownership has changed, but not by much. The business remains in the Zhou family, she said. The family also owns the New Panda Express in Minneapolis.
Besides the physical changes, Asian Buffet has added to its food selection. The owners realized that there was no one in the Hastings area serving Japanese style food, so they decided to fill the need themselves, Lin said.
Asian Buffet now offers hibachi stir fry and a sushi bar along with their other traditional Asian foods. The sushi uses only cooked fish, Lin said, so those who don’t want to eat raw fish can also enjoy it.
There’s also an American style salad bar, and eight different kinds of ice cream.
So far, business has been good. Lin said that it’s been fairly busy since the grand opening, especially over the weekend.
“It’s going pretty good,” she said.
Asian Buffet is now open seven days a week.
