Arrest made in case involving body found here in April
Carrie Olson's former boyfriend was charged Friday morning in connection with her death and disappearance. Olson was found April 5 in a wooded area south of Hastings.
Tim McVay, 39, of Rock Island, Ill., is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death, Rock Island County State's Attorney John McGehee said.
McVay was arrested at a work site in Silvis Friday morning and taken into custody without incident, McGehee said.
He is being held in the Rock Island County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.
Charges claim the homicide occurred within the city of Rock Island.
"This has been a long investigation between Rock Island and Davenport police as well as authorities in Minnesota," McGehee said. "We've been working for several months to bring about this morning's charges."
McVay is set to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Rock Island County.
The 29-year-old Olson was last seen in December. Hastings is about 300 miles away from the Quad Cities of Rock Island, Moline, Ill., East Moline, Ill., and Bettendorf, Iowa.
McVay told police he dropped Olson off at her Davenport house on Dec. 29, according to details in a search warrant filed in Scott County District Court, Davenport.
Her live-in boyfriend, Justin Mueller, along with her parents, reported her missing to police Dec. 30. Mueller told police that Olson did not go into the house on the date and time McVay said he dropped her off, the search warrant states.
The document also discloses that she was at the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque the night before she last was seen.
Davenport police began the investigation at her home, 3205 Spring St., the morning of Dec. 30, which was a Monday, after she failed to show up for work.
According to the search warrant:
• Missing with Olson was her gray 2005 Toyota Avalon with Iowa plates.
• Police later located her vehicle in McVay's possession.
• Olson was seen at 7:44 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque. This was observed on video.
Police interviewed McVay in January.
McVay told police he dropped Olson off at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 29, the search warrant states. He said he left with her car after she gave him permission to drive it.
She also was seen pumping gas at a Rock Island gas station on Dec. 29, according to previously published information.
