Applications accepted now for deer hunts
Hastings Minnesota 745 Spiral Boulevard 55033

Hunters can now apply online for controlled deer hunts in Dakota County Parks.

Bow hunts are scheduled for Lebanon Hills Regional Park and Spring Lake Park Reserve. A controlled shotgun hunt will be held at Miesville Ravine Park Reserve. During the hunts, parks will be closed to non-hunters on selected days or partial days.

The hunts, which will take place in November, have occurred since 1995.

Controlling deer populations supports reforestation and reduces damage to nearby agricultural crops and landscaping. It also improves park habitat, reduces deer-car collisions and potentially reduces the spread of deer-borne diseases.

All applications will be taken online. If you do not wish to submit an online application, contact the Dakota County Parks Department at 952-891-7000 for assistance. The application deadline for all three hunts is Friday, Aug. 21.

Hunters are required to meet certain requirements. Bow hunters who participate at Lebanon Hills must pass an annual shooting proficiency test and have attended a bow certification course sanctioned by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. A mandatory orientation for bow hunters is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Western Service Center.

An orientation for those planning to hunt at Miesville Ravine will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Western Service Center.

Hunters must purchase appropriate licenses and follow all hunting regulations as defined by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The western portion of Spring Lake Park Reserve will be closed for controlled bow hunts in November.

Miesville Ravine Park Reserve will be closed to non-hunters during a controlled shotgun hunt from Nov. 21 to Nov. 29.

More information is available online or by contacting the Dakota County Parks Department at 952-891-7000 or Johnny Forrest, Dakota County Parks, 952-891-7992.
