Animal Ark walk is Saturday; annual walk raises money for shelter
The annual Animal Ark Animal Walk is this Saturday, Aug. 1, in Hastings. The event raises money for Animal Ark, a no-kill shelter located in Hastings.
Teams and individuals have been collecting pledges over the past couple months in preparation for the walk, which is Animal Ark's biggest fundraiser of the year. It's hoping to raise $30,000 from this year's walk.
Registration for walkers begins at 10 a.m. at Animal Ark, located at 2600 Industrial Court in the industrial park. For those who haven't been collecting pledges but still want to participate in the walk, they can register the day of the event and give a donation to Animal Ark.
The walk will begin at 11 a.m., and will take people on a walk of about one mile near the Vermillion River and back to the shelter.
After the walk, the Minnesota Disc Dogs, who were in town during Rivertown Days, will put on a competition and demonstration. There will be food and drinks provided to walkers.
Also in attendance at the event will be a pit bull named Hector who is among the dogs that were rescued from former-NFL quarterback Michael Vick's dog fighting operation.
