Amateur Baseball: Mudhens lead Aces; play suspended in 4th
In Game 2 of the Section 1B second round, Miesville led Red Wing 9-4 in the top of the fourth inning before play was suspended due to thunderstorms Tuesday night at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
Play will resume at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ath.
It didn’t take long for the second-seeded Mudhens to rough up the Aces with three runs in the top of the first. Miesville’s second batter, David Vogelgesang, rocked a pitch by Red Wing’s Andy Gibart over the left-field wall for a solo home run. Later in the inning, Alex LaShomb hit a two-run double to make it 3-0.
Miesville tacked on three more runs in the top of the second, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Matt Van Der Bosch and a two-run double by David Olson.
Down six, Red Wing surged back in the bottom of the second. Adam Thygesen put the Aces first run up with an RBI single, scoring Kyle Blahnik. Then, first baseman Zach Garner hit a deep shot to the right-center gap for a three-run inside-the-park home run.
The Mudhens were unfazed by the Aces’ rally, putting up three runs in the top of the fourth. Colin Keefe brought home Van Der Bosch and Olson with a two-out, two-run double. The next batter, Alex LaShomb, brought Keefe home with a single before the umpires suspended the game.
