Alex Zuzek is Rotary student of the month
Laura Zabel, teacher, HHS math, nominated Zuzek. Here is what Laura said about Alex when nominating him:
I would like to nominate Alex Zuzek for Rotary Student of the Month. Alex is an outstanding young man who has grown into a caring and strong leader. Alex is incredibly involved in our school and community. I have watched him as a student in my Honors Pre Calculus class, as well as in show choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, tennis and basketball, and he is a person that leads by example and his peers look to for encouragement and guidance. I have been especially impressed with his ability to make other students feel welcome and part of the group. If there is ever a situation where something needs to get done, people need motivation or help, Alex is the first to step forward. I have seen that so many times this year.
In the fall Alex, as student council president, organized all the homecoming activities and pep fest, which began over the summer. His leadership provided a wonderful and positive experience for our entire student body. In NHS I have watched Alex step forward to include students who normally would be left out. It is so gratifying to see that maturity and thoughtfulness in a high school senior. We also got a last minute call to help move a resident in Oak Ridge manor and I put out a plea for help. It was a day off for the students, and Alex was the first to respond and volunteer. He has a servant heart and makes a difference in a quiet and unassuming way that exemplifies “service above self.” In the arts and athletics, Alex is a determined competitor and a self-appointed motivator, who fires up his teammates and encourages them to be the best they can be. He knows his role and makes every organization he is a part of better.
Alex plans to go to Saint Mary’s in Winona to be a teacher, and I can’t think of a better vocation for him, where he can continue to lead, serve and encourage others.
