Affinity Plus opens in Hastings
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union opened in Hastings last week, and the business is doing what it can to get the word out that anyone living in the state can be a member. While the business got its start for state and county employees some 80 years ago, much has changed, and anyone can join.
Affinity Plus is located at 1731 N. Frontage Road in the strip mall adjacent to Walmart.
What exactly is a credit union? They are member-owned, not-for-profit organizations. Affinity Plus has checking accounts, savings accounts, loans, mortgages, credit credits and the like.
"We do all those banking services, and we put our members first," said Heather Von Itter, the branch lead in Hastings. "We ensure everything is right for the members."
Von Itter said the fact that Affinity Plus is owned by its members means they get treated well.
"Any of the fees we may have go back to our members through dividends, higher interest on CDs, etc.," Von Itter said. "We're not here to gain a profit. That's a huge thing. Our goal is to do what is right for our members. If it's not right for the member, we're not going to do it."
The decision to open a branch in Hastings was made easy because of the fact that Affinity Plus already had hundreds of customers living in Hastings.
"We have over 800 members residing in Hastings," Von Itter said. "We try to open locations in communities that use us every single day. Hastings is definitely one of those communities. We want to ensure we are serving our members, and we want to do that with the same level of experience they are accustomed to from us."
Von Itter is one of those members. She is a 1993 graduate of Hastings High School.
