Aces hold off Hawks in CCVL play

The Hastings Hawks returned to action at Red Wing on Sunday. After being off since the first of July, the Hawks took on the Red Wing Aces in a Classic Cannon Valley League game. Red Wing won, 2-1.
Nate Rost Started on the hill for the Hawks; he allowed two runs (one earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out five. His earned run average is a mere 0.96.
The Aces scored first on two singles and a throwing error in the first inning, and it was 1-0 after one.
In the Hawks' third, David Volgelgesang doubled, was bunted to third by Jordy Horsch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pat Kelly, and it was tied at 1-1.
The score stayed that way until the Aces' eighth, when they scored on a single, a sacrifice bunt and a single. Steve Boldt drove the winning run home on his third hit of the game.
Nick Rost had two hits to lead the Hawks, and Jordy Horsch, Pat kelly, David Volgelgesang, Nick Horsch, Jared Powell all collected one hit apiece for the Hawks.
The Hawks have a very busy week ahead of them. On Wednesday night, they take on the Randolph Railcats at Veterans Park in Hastings.
They travel to Minnetonka Thursday night, and on Friday, they host the Prescott Pirates in the annual Border Battle that begins at 8 p.m.
The Hastings Legion takes on Prescott at 5 p.m.
On Saturday night, The Blaine Fusion come to Hastings for a 7:30 p.m. game and then on Sunday, the Hawks travel to Dundas for 6 p.m. game.
