AAUW, Regina sponsor health seminar
The Regina Foundation and Hastings Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will present their fifth annual community event at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth St.
This year's free event, "Keys to Successful Aging in the Baby Boom Generation" will be presented by Dr. William Orr, PhD, MD, FAPA, of Regina Medical Center. He is also founder and director, Orr and Associates Memory and Geriatric Behavioral Clinic in Mendota Heights, and assistant professor of psychiatry, University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m.
Orr will present information on aging healthfully and gracefully, as well as tools to deal with a traumatic loss, such as the death of a family member or loss of a job. The seminar will also help attendees understand the signs and the key symptoms of common mental health issues as they age, including memory loss, depression, and dementia including current and emerging treatment options.
In addition, representatives from a wide variety of community resources will have information stations at the event. These will include: The YMCA, Allina Medical Clinic, memory care services offered at Regina Medical Center, Nutrition Services, and The Alzheimer's Association. Refreshments will also be served.
