AAUW announces program speaker
On Monday, Sept. 23, the Hastings Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will begin its annual program speaker series by hosting a presentation by Atina Diffley, entitled, “Stepping In As Role Models and Change Makers.” Atina Diffley is an organic farmer, consultant, activist, and author of the Minnesota Book Award winning memoir, “Turn Here Sweet Corn: Organic Farming Works.” Her advocacy has addressed the pressures of suburban development, and she successfully led a legal and citizen campaign against Koch Industries, to create an Organic Mitigation Plan for organic farms in Minnesota, and to reroute a crude oil pipeline to protect organic farms and local food. You can subscribe to Atina’s on-line blog at www.atina diffley.com. Atina and her husband, Martin, live and farm locally in Dakota County. Atina will bring copies of her book to the September 23 program for attendees who would like the opportunity to purchase an autographed copy.
