1999 baseball team to be honored tonight

The Hastings High School boys baseball team will play host to the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders at 7:30 p.m. May 15 at Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville.

The game will feature a ceremony for the players and coaches from the 1999 team that won the state tournament.

It will also be youth night. All kids should show up in their Raiders uniforms by 7 p.m.

The 1999 team advanced to the state tournament by beating Cretin-Derham Hall twice in the section tournament.

The first win snapped Cretin's 66-game winning streak. It was a wild, 11-10 victory.

The two teams eventually met in the section championship. This time around, Hastings 10-runned Cretin, winning 10-0 in six innings.

At the state tournament, Hastings beat Rochester Mayo, Little Falls and Maple Grove.

The team was coached by Mike (Doc) Louden.
