St. John the Baptist Catholic School recently hosted a Feed My Starving Children 'mobilePack' event where more than 270 volunteers packed 54,000 meals. The event packed thousands of fortified rice 'manna pack' meals to be shipped worldwide to feed hungry children. The event was held as a way to build community and provide a potentially transforming service opportunity to students, families, parishioners and neighbors. The group packed enough meals to feed 150 children for an entire year.
The Feed My Starving Children development officer, Ann Hill, said sometimes groups made of elementary-aged children result in lower production results. However, the participants in Vermillion were task-oriented and held their concentration for a great result.
