Jack Caturia has been named the Hastings Rotary Student of the Month for November 2017. Caturia was recognized at the Nov. 9 Hastings Rotary Club breakfast meeting at the Green Mill.

Caturia has a 3.92 GPA and takes many AP classes. He is captain of the alpine ski team and is involved with football, track and field, trap shooting, chess club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Caturia is described as a self-starter with a great work ethic. In a nomination letter, someone wrote that he is a good decision-maker and problem-solver.

"(Caturia) is a hardworking person, a quietly determined young man, who is always willing to go the extra mile and/or lend a helping hand," the letter said.

Caturia keeps busy and works hard outside of school too. He has an after school job at Dairy Queen. During the winter, he shovels multiple properties and in the summer he mows, many of them for free. He is involved with church and volunteers as a Lector and Eucharistic MInister.

In a letter from someone nominating Caturia for the award, it stated "Jack does not take the easy route in life, but always pushes himself in sport, education and life; he is a well-rounded individual."
