Notice of ordinance amendment to

allow chickens in residential and

PI (Public Institutional) areas

A proposed ordinance amendment to allow Chickens as pets in single-family residential districts is being introduced for review at citizen request. A request has also been brought forward by the Leduc Mansion to allow chickens in the PI (Public Institutional) district.

The proposed amendment includes provisions such as: licensing approval by the City Council, neighbor notification of 350', confinement requirements, no roosters, limited number of chickens, and no nuisances, or unsanitary conditions allowed to name a few. The proposed ordinance may be found on the City's website

The Planning Commission will meet in a public hearing at 7:00 pm on Monday, July 13, 2009, in the City Council Chambers located in the Hastings City Hall, 101 Fourth St E, Hastings, MN to recommend to the city Council any changes to the following ordinances: Chapter 91, Animals and 155, Zoning

Before the date of the public hearing, persons may contact the Hastings Planning Department with any questions. All persons are welcome to attend this hearing and make comment.
