The Hastings Parks and Recreation Department will host a Summer Kickoff Celebration from 5-8 p.m. June 6 at Levee Park and the Rotary Pavilion, 20 Ramsey St. The free event will have live music, knocker ball, bounce houses, youth activities and more.
Paige Marschall Bigler, the recreation programming specialist at the Parks Department, said that a similar event was held last year with a ribbon cutting. This year and in future years, a summer kickoff event will be celebrated to promote upcoming summer programs.
"We want to encourage the community and visitors to utilize the facility and outdoors and create community connections," Marschall Bigler said.
The celebration will be an open house style event. Community members and visitors are welcome to attend.
Live music, including the rock band Voltage, will start at about 5:15 p.m. Following Voltage, Kreisjugend Orchester German Wind Band will perform from 7-8 p.m. The band is touring throughout the state and decided to stop in Hastings.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Vendors will include Schoolhouse Scoop and RiverCity Popcorn and Candy Company. The Lions Club will have hot dogs for the first 500 attendees and will accept donations.
Youth activities, bounce houses and knocker ball will be on hand for entertainment. Knocker ball is an inflatable sphere that someone gets inside and tries to run, bounce and roll. For more information about knocker ball visit www.knockerballmn.com.
Marschall Bigler said that Levee Park and the Rotary Pavilion area is such a vibrant space along the river. For more information about summer programming, visit www.hastingsmn.gov/programsandevents or follow City of Hastings on Facebook.
