Sept. 29 walk benefits Alzheimers Association

Regina Medical Center will hold its second annual Alzheimer's Walk, following a charity community harvest garden Saturday, Sept. 29.

The day begins with an ecumenical service at 8 a.m. in the Allina Medical Clinic Nininger parking lot, 1285 Nininger Road.

The walk registration and T-shirt pick-up begins at 8:30 a.m., with the scheduled walk to begin at 9 a.m.

The goal of the Alzheimer's Walk is to have more than 500 walkers, runners and joggers raise more $15,000 for the Minnesota/North Dakota chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Immediately following the walk, Divine Swine Catering of Lakeville will hold a free pig roast for all participants. Door prize winners will be announced at this time.

The fun continues from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the Sisters of Charity Community Garden Harvest. A number of activities are planned for the entire family.

The medical center would also like to create Regina's take on the old tale of Stone Soup, where the members of the community bring together what they have to make a soup for all. If you are able to help, drop off your produce from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Father Dunne Center, located in the hospital. Divine Swine Catering will take the donated produce and make soup for the garden harvest celebration. One cup of soup per person will be given out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to those participating in the harvest until the soup runs out.
