Caring Hands celebrates 30 years in business
Hastings' Caring Hands Massage and Spa is celebrating 30 years of business this year.
"It's a super special time and a special time of feeling grateful," said owner David Mueller.
Mueller opened Caring Hands 30 years ago in South Minneapolis as a part time practice while he was still in school for counseling and human services. Although his schooling was in a different field, he discovered that massage therapy was his passion.
"I found that working with people, doing muscle therapy and doing healing work with people was really what my special gift was," he said.
About 10 years ago, he fell in love with Judith Kulla and moved his practice to Hastings. While many small towns can be prejudiced against massage businesses, Hastings has impressed him, Mueller said.
"Hastings is an incredible town both for massage and natural care and just for wellness," he said.
The community support he and Kulla, who owns the business with him, have received are a big reason why Caring Hands has been so successful, he said. The other part is the attitude he brings to his work. He has a passion for doing good work, he said, which is part of the reason he's lasted so long. Most massage therapists quit after three to eight years, he said, while he's been working at it for 30.
"I'm still excited about the work and being with people, and that's the biggest part for me," he said.
Caring Hands offers its customers a full complement of spa services. It is a full wellness center, a teaching center and a full spa, Mueller said. His work includes relaxation and deep tissue therapy, injury care, wellness coaching, outdoor spa features and more.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Mueller and Kulla are planning an open house from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. There will be food, specials and drawings. Mueller said he's hoping to see all sorts of people there - from past students to regular clients to those who have never seen Caring Hands before.
