Lilypad Dayspa to close May 1

Business has been good for Suzie Dillon, owner of Lilypad Day Spa in downtown Hastings, but the time has come for the business to close its doors.

"It's time for me to reinvent myself," Dillon said.

Dillon has been doing massage for 21 years, the last nine of which have been in Hastings. The business has had three locations downtown. It is currently located at 103 Sibley St. Dillon got her start in Hastings working for Walker Chiropractic and also worked for Nu Wave Salon before moving to West St. Paul for 12 years. While she was there, she went to school and opened her own massage business, which she ran for seven years before coming back to Hastings.

Lilypad is doing well, Dillon said. She is closing the business to devote more time to her family. Her youngest child is graduating high school this year, and with her husband in the military, she said she wants to make herself more available - in case he gets transferred, for example, she said.

Massage will continue to be a part of her life, but on a family and friends level rather than as a business, she said.

"I can't ever see a point in life that it won't be a part of me," she said.

Most of her customers have expressed sadness that Lilypad is closing - a sentiment Dillon understands.

"You get attached to your service providers," she said. "And I'm very attached to my clients."

It's her clients and this community that have made her business so successful. Massage was very well received here, she said.

"I'm very grateful to the community of Hastings," she said.

"It's a good place for my career to start and finish."

Lilypad Day Spa will officially close May 1.

"If you have a gift certificate, get in," Dillon said.

While she doesn't have any long term plans set in stone yet, she knows she'll be busy through May at least. She's taking the month off to plan her daughter's graduation, she said, and she's also the chair of the All Night Grad Party for Hastings High School.
