YMCA will celebrate national senior fitness day May 29

There are already a large number of older active adult Americans participating in the classes and activities at the Hastings Area YMCA. More are being invited to learn more about the YMCA, and the opportunity to do just that is next Wednesday, May 29.

Summer Stretch’ offers service, fellowship for youth

The “Summer Stretch” program, coordinated by St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, is open to the community and is set to go again for the 2013 summer. During the program, Hastings youths do community service, have fun and make new friends.

Worknight in the prairie

Help protect the Hastings Sand Coulee Scientific and Natural area (SNA) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27. With its tall grass and wildflowers, the Sand Coulee offers a different kind of beauty.

A Rally For Russell

A Rally for Russell Johnson will be held on Saturday, June 22, at Dugarel’s. There will be a silent auction, raffles and a beer bash from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per person for the beer bash. The spaghetti dinner is $8.99 for adults and $4.99 for children.

Root beer float party

Enjoy floats, crafts, games and activities and an opportunity to sign up for the Summer Reading Experience at the Pleasant Hill Library on Tuesday, June 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. For children of all ages.

Parent Child Archery is May 19

Spend time learning the sport of archery with a child in your life at Parent Child Archery, held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the archery shelter in Lower Spring Lake Park Reserve.

Beer Bash for MS will be held on June 1

The third annual Beer Bash for MS will be held June 1 at Dugarel’s Bar and Grill, 3475 Vermillion St. in Hastings. A spaghetti dinner will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the beer bash from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $15 for all you can drink.

Learn about D-Day

Dan Hartman, a military historian, will discuss “The Invasion of Normandy,” at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Senior Center.

Dance to the music

Dance to the music of David Allen from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, at the Senior Center. The fee of $4 must be paid in advance. Light refreshments will be served.

Lead Like Jesus workshop is set

Bless Hastings in conjunction with Hastings Pastor Randy Strode and Lead Like Jesus Ministries will sponsor a Lead Like Jesus workshop, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 17, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at The Harbor, 11125 W. Pt. Douglas Drive.

Alzen family highlights Silver Teas program

Dakota County Library’s annual Silver Teas program is back, which means everything from bluegrass to ballads and steel drums to jazz sounds. Programs are scheduled for nine Dakota County Libraries in May, including Hastings.

SEAS tailgate sale is Saturday, June 1

For the third consecutive year, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church is offering the use of its parking lot for its annual tailgate sale. The event is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1. For a $15 fee interested people can rent two parking spaces in the church lot, 2035 W. 15th St., and sell their items.

Historic Walking Tour of Afton

The Afton Museum is holding a free historic walking tour of the village of Afton on Sunday, May 5. Meet at the Afton museum at 1:30 p.m. The tour will start 2 p.m. and end at the museum at 4 p.m. Historian Ken Martens will narrate the tour.
